Scenes From the L.E.S., East Village and Chinatown
May 19-June 30
When he’s not installing lighting for Clubbed Thumb and other N.Y. theater companies and performance spaces, Christopher Brown is a visual artist. His work mainly follows the Urban Sketchers Manifesto: Drawing on location, creating a truthful record of time or place. His primary interests are city infrastructure, areas in transition, urban industrial centers, and old architecture and remnants of past New York. This selection of drawings from his sketchbooks focuses on the Lower East Side, the East Village, and Chinatown. These images were created with ink and watercolor pencil.
He received his BA in Visual Arts from Brown University and his MFA in Theater Design from NYU Tisch. He is currently a Visiting Artist at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
