The benefit performance kicks off our new capital campaign: a fund dedicated to the purchasing of the building and the future of the wild project, a vital part of the East Village community.
Root Us in the LES features performances by Cyrus Aaron (poet and playwright), David Cale (Obie Award-winning writer/performer), Nini Camps (lead singer, Antigone Rising), David Doobinin (singer-songwriter and visual artist), Heather Litteer (performance and alt. cabaret artist), and Dael Orlandersmith (playwright, performer, Pulitzer Prize finalist). The evening is hosted by Academy Award-winning actor Estelle Parsons.
At its core, the wild project believes the arts can connect those in the community, enhancing the neighborhood while encouraging unity. For over a decade, the wild project has maintained its commitment to improving the community through the arts with the relationship to East Village artists, the community’s most vital asset, as well as their surrounding neighbors.
“The wild project has welcomed over 30,000 patrons for plays, concerts, films, poetry slams and beyond, with artists who have a home base or connection to the East Village and the Lower East Side,” says producing artistic director Ana Mari de Quesada. “Being able to own our building ensures we can lay down our long-term roots for many more decades to come, continuing to serve these artists and our neighbors by giving them a space where they can feel at home.”
