SOUND STAGE: Black Girls Rock
featuring Olivia K and courtnie
Wednesday, July 5th 7:30pm
Lobby Opens at 6:30

The K in Olivia (oliviakandtheparkers) Khe-ra, means “Daughter of the Sun,” which perfectly describes her music, her joyous outlook on life and fiery disposition. Her performance art and musical sensibility combines the boundless energy of the Brooklyn West Indian Day Parade with the soulfulness of the Baptist church she grew up in. A proud lifelong Brooklynite (except four years uptown at Columbia University), her iconic voice and original writing can be heard on Netflix, BET, and MTV as well as in commercials, and most unusually, a fire escape in NYC. As the DIY Funk Queen of East New York, she has led her band Olivia K and the Parkers in a sold-out show at Joe’s Pub, and joined the 2022 Joe’s Pub Working Artist Group. Her anthem “Native New Yorker” is archived in the permanent archives of Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) and was heard on the Showtime series “Flatbush Misdemeanors”.

courtnie (kingcourtnie) is a st. louis-bred songwriter and vocalist based in brooklyn, ny. she fell in love with music via her dad’s vinyl collection and v103 radio and since entering the scene she’s been featured on bet jams, in vogue, in refinery29, and also released multiple projects that tap into her love of vibrant sonic and visual experiences. her most recent single ‘lifted’ is an alt r&b electronic celebration of the moments we wish would last forever.

wild project is a proud partner of IndieSpace. We donate $0.05 from every ticket to support historically excluded Indie Theater artists in New York.

Sound Stage is a performance initiative that gives the stage back to the community, keeping the spirit of live entertainment strong in the post-pandemic era. There’s a certain quality that intimate shows offer, and there’s power when audiences can actually see and feel the artists up close at our 89-seat theater. This initiative is about the communal connection between people and artmaking at our 89-seat theater in the East Village. New York City is home to an amazing artist community, and that community has uniquely talented people, some of which you may know, and some of which you definitely want to find out about.

Sound Stage @ wild project, launched in 2022, annually presents intimate performances between July & August. This year’s lineup featured comedians, poets, and music artists from around the country, and we are ecstatic to have Brooklyn-based artist Cyrus Aaron as our first curator-in-residence.
