Poetic License Festival: RENEWAL

RENEWAL
GROUP WORK

Poetic Theater Productions is honored to be back at the Wild Project for the 9th annual Poetic License festival of new poetic theater. This year’s festival’s theme is “RENEWAL”, embracing that which makes us new, fresh, or strong again. The festival’s showcases highlight the voices of military veterans, Queer communities, youth, new collaborations between poets, composers, and choreographers, and a celebration of Hip Hop, Afrofuturism, and Afrobeat. The art gallery features artists whose work explores concepts of renewal that are relevant to the communities of the individual showcases and to the festival overall. Jennie West asks us to embrace the unknown; Jacqui Martinez encourages us to devote ourselves to what makes us feel most alive; Brys Peralta-Grant honors a national effort to revitalize pre-colonial language and culture; Daniel Marcellus Givens features black and brown figures becoming one with Spirit(s); an unclaimed piece from a combat paper workshop brings new abstract life to a material once used for war; and Ada Reso explores a spiritual relationship between otherwise discarded blood and bodies, society, and nature. We are honored to feature this art together at the Wild Project to reflect layers of personal and communal (or community-oriented) efforts to find and practice renewal.
