Whole K-Hole
a workshop performance
April 29th & 30th at 7:30PM
Written & Performed by Kim Katzberg*
wild project’s Artist in Residence
In this semi-autobiographical solo play, Kim embodies a plethora of darkly comedic characters, including her bipolar suburban Mom circa 1991. The story weaves together live performance, video and original songs to create a cohesive, genre-bending whole. Original songs zigzag through a world centered on a strip mall hair salon and a fictional public access TV show. The performance is a radically weird and imaginative world of bold humor and unconventional characters, grounded in real life stories of neuroses. Using irreverent humor to expose the taboo underbelly of a suburban family rife with intergenerational madness, the piece shines a light on the pain hidden within a person who wrestles with a troubled mind. The piece asks: what are the consequences when an individual’s mental illness is dismissed or denied? This work is Kim’s contribution to a larger societal conversation about the consequences of unhealed trauma.
