SOUNDSTAGE
Annual Music Series
Sound Stage is a performance initiative that supports the small stage as well as up-and-coming talent. The concert festival is about the communal connection between people and performance at our 89-seat theater in the East Village. There’s a certain quality that intimate shows offer, and there’s power when audiences can actually see and feel the artists up close. We are building an annual festival that keeps the rich spirit of community and performance vibrant in the post-pandemic era. The artist lineup is selected by our curator-in-residence, Brooklyn based artist and organizer Cyrus Aaron.
Sound Stage @ wild project, launched in the Summer of 2022. Year one featured comedians, poets, and music artists from around the country including: Comedian CP, Butterfly Black, Mahogany L. Browne, Tonina. The second annual series in 2023 featured Isa Reyes, Olivia K, Courtney, Zamy Ma, The Incredible Dunker-tons, Marla Lou, Joél Leon, Jeanette Berry, and Zaniah.
“Throughout my career, I’ve prioritized being able to invite other artists to join me on various opportunities. There’s something rewarding when you can share experiences. I’m not even sure we can function in the role of creating without a strong sense of community, and working with other brilliant hearts and minds has made my journey truly special.
I’m honored to continue my curatorial residency with Sound Stage @ Wild Project for its second year. In selecting the 2023 lineup, I wanted to reflect the city, and tap into the variety of tones and textures that make New York City the greatest show on Earth. You just never know what you’re in for with this city, but what we do know is that there is no place that we’d rather be than here.” – Cyrus Aaron
